VOLUME 1
Wind
Controller #1 - PATCHMAN MUSIC Volume 1 for the Alesis S4
and QuadraSynth contains 128 sounds specially designed by wind
controller expert Matt
Traum to be played with a wind controller such as the WX5,
WX7, WX11, WindJamm'r, Akai EWI, EWI4000s, EVI, MIDI EVI, MDT,
or Synthophone. Keyboardists can enjoy these sounds with a Yamaha
BC1, BC2, or BC3
breath controller plugged directly into a keyboard equipped with
a breath controller input or into a device such as the MIDI
Solutions Breath Controller Box or Anatek Wind Machine. These
sounds require a wind controller or breath controller for proper
use.
This soundbank features a superb palette of sounds providing
almost every sound needed for a professional wind controller
performance. It consists of a complete collection of highly expressive
acoustic solo woodwind, brass, and stringed instruments, acoustic
ensemble layers, unique morphed acoustic instrument patches,
powerful synth leads, basses, guitars, and much more. Also featured
are some highly bizarre specialty patches such as "*PhilGlass",
"*Dimentia!" that must be heard to be believed. These
patches really show off the Matrix Modulation capabilities of
the S4 / QuadraSynth to the fullest! We have also included various
chorded string, brass, and synth patches which allow you to provide
a massive wall of sound from a single patch if desired!
This soundbank has been specifically programmed for use with
the original Alesis S4 and QuadraSynth. We offer specific soundbanks
for the various Alesis models. Click on the Alesis logo at the
left for details on soundbanks for other Alesis models.
PATCHMAN MUSIC wind controller soundbanks can be heard with
world reknown artists such as Michael Brecker, Tom Scott,
Bob Mintzer (Yellowjackets), Jeff Kashiwa (The Rippingtons),
Ricky Martin, Kirk Whalum, Bruce Hornsby, Edwin McCain, Earth,
Wind, and Fire, Lionel Richie, George Michael, Michael Bolton,
Dianna Ross, Stevie Wonder, The Saturday Night Live Band, The
Tonight Show Band, Simply Red, Hammer, Jeffrey Osborne, Mark
Douthit, Rob Mounsey (twice Grammy nominated producer, arranger,
synthesist for Michael Franks, Paul Simon, Eric Clapton, Donald
Fagen), Ed Calle, Luis Miguel, Frankie Vallie, Randy Crawford,
The Berklee College of Music, Gil Melle, and many other top
professionals worldwide!
S4
/ QuadraSynth Volume 1 Highlights
Patches 60, 61, 62, and 63 are unique "morphed patches".
They are distinguished by having a "+" as the last
letter of their name. These sounds are unique in that the sound
morphs, or gradually changes, from one instrument to another
depending on your breath level!
Patch 64, *Bagpipes, is an amazingly realistic bagpipe patch
complete with the drones!
Patches 79 through 84 are specialty patches that use pitchbend
in a unique way. Generally speaking, these sounds will introduce
an additional pitch or two, or will change the chord quality
in response to pitchbend data. For example, patch #83, "*mMSusStPB",
plays a standard major chord when no pitchbend is added. If you
add pitchbend down, the chord changes to a minor chord. If you
add a pitchbend up, the chord becomes a suspended chord! Patch
#82, "*OrchChdPB", changes from a unison string section
sound to a chorded string section when you send a large pitchbend
down value. Patch #79, "*DblStp1PB", changes from a
single solo violin note to a double stopped sound when you send
a large pitchbend down value. Patch #84, "*5ChordsPB",
actually allows you to play 5 different chord types from this
single patch!! No pitchbend = major. Small pitchbend down = minor
chord. Large pitchbend down = diminished chord. Small pitchbend
up = suspended chord. Large pitchbend up = a minor 4 chord.
Patches 126 and 127 are splits. They were inspired by the
Miles Davis song called "So What". With this single
patch, you can play the bass line to this song AND the chorded
horn ensemble part simply by virtue of the range you play in!
We think you will find this soundbank to be pretty amazing!

Please Note: This soundbank is specially
designed for use with a wind controller or breath controller
and thus requires one of these devices for proper use.
These sounds require MIDI continuous controller #2 (breath controller)
in order to make any sound. If you do not have a wind controller
or breath controller you will probably not be able to use these
sounds. |

Synthophone Inventor Martin Hurni comments...
"Your sounds are fabulous and I've already used them
in a short demo for Swiss television last Tuesday. Thank you
and have a great day!"

"I am basking in the after glow this morning after experiencing
yet another beautiful collection of sounds from Matt. It goes
without saying that every module I own has Patchman patches in
it . This set is an incredible collection because , like all
the patches I've bought , they are so musical! That's really
where the rubber hits the road for me. It's OK for a patch to
sound cool or intriguing but if it can't respond to the will
of the player then it is useless. The S4 voices represent an
opportunity for me to create more music within the confines of
my studio work because of the inspiration behind them. Matt really
is an artist and we're lucky to have somebody like him to create
these beautiful pieces of art for us to use and enjoy. Hats off
to Matt for his hard work and determination in developing and
providing myself and others in the wind controller realm with
yet another muse inspiring sound set. - A Very Satisfied Customer."
