Patchman Music now offers two complete wind controller soundbanks for the Roland Fantom XR, X6, X7, and X8:
These all-new soundbanks turn your Roland Fantom XR, X6, X7, and X8 into a wind controller powerhouse. These professional quality wind controller sounds come from PATCHMAN MUSIC- the leading authority in breath controlled sound design. These soundbanks work superbly with a wind controller such as the Yamaha WX5, WX7, WX11, WindJamm'r, Akai EWI USB, EWI4000s, EVI, EWI4000s, Nyle Steiner MIDI EVI and EWI, MDT, or Softwind Synthophone. Keyboardists can also enjoy these highly expressive sounds when used with a Yamaha BC1, BC2, or BC3 plugged directly into a keyboard equipped with a breath controller input (i.e. Yamaha VL70-m) or plugged into a device such as the MIDI Solutions Breath Controller Box or Anatek Wind Machine (out of production). These sounds require a wind controller or breath controller for proper use. These sounds are NOT compatible with any other synth.

Erik expertly shows how expressive a single properly-programmed wind controlled patch can be when played with skill and correct breath control. Matt has used these sounds in performance for over 4 years. The Patchman Music Volume 2 Soundbank for the Roland Fantom XR, X6, X7, and X8 takes over where Volume 1 left off. This bank begins with a great collection of plucked and percussive type sounds including a wide variety of guitars, basses, keyboards, and percussion instruments all tweaked to be played with a wind controller. This bank continues on with some outstanding organ lead sounds and vocal type sounds including Take 6 style chords and scat type lead voices. Getting into the heart of this bank you will find a plethora of synth timbres that respond extremely well to your breath expression. All of the classic synth leads are here including those fat Judd-style EWI leads, breathy and bell-type sounds, huge Brecker-inspired analog layers and chords, and so much more. We have also included some ambient patches allowing you to create extremely complex washes of sound. There are looping type sounds that echo what you play allowing you to build up intricate rhythms. There are some clever patches whereby your breath level morphs the sound from a single note into a chord. ...And the Performance bank is truly amazing! All the fat lead sounds are there. And for the first time ever, we have developed a technique that emulates the rotating chord washes that Michael Brecker made so famous. Available Formats: These soundbanks are available only in Standard MIDIfile (.MID) format via Email, CD ROM, or Floppy Disk for PC or Mac. This Midifile can be transferred to the Fantom XR, X6, X7, and X8 by copying the Midifile to a USB memory stick / thumb drive or via a computer connected to the Fantom XR, X6, X7, and X8 using various free Midifile players and most Midi sequencers (Cubase, Performer, Pro Tools, Sonar, Cakewalk, Logic, etc). Complete instructions are included with the soundbank. Please specify Email, CD ROM, or Floppy Disk when ordering. Yes, we can email this soundbank to customers anywhere in the world- and we recommend email delivery for all overseas customers.
Please note: This product is NOT an expansion card. These sounds are Patches and Performances that are loaded into the USER bank in this synth via a MIDI dump using a computer. More info on this is here. These soundbanks are NOT compatible with any other synth.

"I've been working with Matt Traum's new patches for the Roland Fantom XR synth for the past two weeks and must say they are all very good if not amazing! Matt said he focused on patches that emulate 'real' instruments in his comments about this new set of patches and I have to say he was totally successful! All the woodwind (flutes, oboes, english horn, bassoon, clarinets, and saxes) patches are outstanding. Felt like I had become Eddie Daniels in a 3+ hour practice session yesterday (lost track of time the patches were so great!). This was a great investment for me... as I use my EWI/WX5 controllers for my solo work, where I've found my audience is much more engaged with me playing multiple 'instruments' on my gigs.. (flugelhorn, trumpet, clarinet, bone, etc..) along with my alto & tenor saxes. Matt's work on this new set added some greatly improved patches, when compared to my Roland XV-5050 patches (I will continue to use the 5050.. but the Fantom XR patches will become primary voices in most cases). Bottom-line... I highly recommend Matt's patches for the Roland Fantom XR!!"

Just wandering through the options I found 'section' sound after 'section' sound that had me thumbing through the Real Books for the Work Song chart. Just what the doctor ordered to be a one man horn section in a rock group. But then came the string performances and I was turning the pages looking for a ballad, any ballad. Wow!"
