VOLUME 1 For the Alesis QS6

Alesis QS6 QS-6 soundbanks patches voices programs patch banks Patchman Music Wind Controller #1 - PATCHMAN MUSIC Volume 1 for the Alesis QS6 contains 127 sounds specially designed by wind controller expert Matt Traum to be played with a wind controller such as the WX5, WX7, WX11, WindJamm'r, Akai EWI, EWI5000, EWI4000s, EVI, MIDI EVI, MDT, nuEVI, Aodyo Sylphyo, or Softwind Synthophone. Keyboardists can enjoy these sounds with a Yamaha BC1, BC2, or BC3 breath controller plugged directly into a keyboard equipped with a breath controller input or into a device such as the MIDI Solutions Breath Controller Box or Anatek Wind Machine. These sounds require a wind controller or breath controller for proper use.

This soundbank features a superb palette of sounds providing almost every sound needed for a professional wind controller performance. It consists of a complete collection of highly expressive acoustic solo woodwind, brass, and stringed instruments, acoustic ensemble layers, unique morphed acoustic instrument patches, powerful synth leads, basses, guitars, a GM drum kit, and much more. Also featured are some highly bizarre specialty patches such as "*PhilGlass", "*Dimentia!" that must be heard to be believed. These patches really show off the Matrix Modulation capabilities of the QS6 to the fullest! We have also included various chorded string, brass, and synth patches which allow you to provide a full wall of sound from a single patch! For those times when it might be useful to add a shaker, conga, or cowbell part during a another band member's solo, we have included a GM drum kit.

This soundbank has been specifically programmed for use with the Alesis QS6. We offer specific soundbanks for the various Alesis models. Click on the Alesis logo at the left for details on soundbanks for other Alesis models.

Alesis QS6 QS-6 soundbanks patches voices programs patch banks Patchman MusicQS6 Volume 1 Highlights

Patches 58, 59, 60, and 61 are unique "morphed patches". They are distinguished by having a "+" as the last letter of their name. These sounds are unique in that the sound morphs, or gradually changes, from one instrument to another depending on your breath level!

Patches 62 and 63 are splits. They were inspired by the Miles Davis song called "So What". With this single patch, you can play the bass line to this song AND the chorded horn ensemble part simply by virtue of the range you play in!

Patch 64, *Bagpipes, is a highly realistic bagpipe sound complete with the drones!

Patches 77 and 78 are velocity controlled layers. The sound switches between a bowed string sound and a pizzicato string sound depending on how hard you tongue a note!

Patches 79 through 84 are specialty patches that use pitchbend in a unique way. Generally speaking, these sounds will introduce an additional pitch or two, or will change the chord quality in response to pitchbend data. For example, patch #83, "*mMSusStPB", plays a standard major chord when no pitchbend is added. If you add pitchbend down, the chord changes to a minor chord. If you add a pitchbend up, the chord becomes a suspended chord! Patch #82, "*OrchChdPB", changes from a unison string section sound to a chorded string section when you send a large pitchbend down value. Patch #79, "*DblStp1PB", changes from a single solo violin note to a double stopped sound when you send a large pitchbend down value. Patch #84, "*5ChordsPB", actually allows you to play 5 different chord types from this single patch!! No pitchbend = major. Small pitchbend down = minor chord. Large pitchbend down = diminished chord. Small pitchbend up = suspended chord. Large pitchbend up = a minor 4 chord.

We think you will find this soundbank to be pretty amazing!

Please Note: This soundbank is specially designed for use with a wind controller or breath controller and thus requires one of these devices for proper use. These sounds require MIDI continuous controller #2 (breath controller) in order to make any sound. If you do not have a wind controller or breath controller you will probably not be able to use these sounds.

User Comments...

"Thanks for the quick response. I only had an hour or two to play with the sounds last night, but I was absolutely amazed with the quality and responsiveness. I especially liked the chords. The bank is a welcome addition to my current setup. Thanks for everything."

"Just wanted you to know that I tried the QSR patches with my WX11 and they are BEAUTIFUL. Thanks for the great work."

"I will testify that the QSR is a very cool synth and that Matt's library for wind controller is a wonderful starting point for creating sounds with chords. The Brecker patches are really cool as well as the mixed horn section patches."

"I've gotten your wind controller soundbank for the QSR loaded up and I can't believe the job you've done programming these sounds! The stock samples are good, but the User bank is now Very Very Cool! Can't really express how cool it feels to turn the dial and be anyone from Mangione to Porter to Sanborn (ok, minus a fair amount of genius). But the sounds are there in spades, and creative doors throughout my head are opening up. I'm jonesing for a VL70-m, bet that it will have the Turbo chip in it when it happens. Thanks again Matt for making a great product that makes such a HUGE difference for a great cost!"

"I just got patches... and they layer wonderfully underneath the VL1m voices. They are really cool! IMHO!! I was wondering before if Matt could really make them any better than the Alesis patches... and he did. They are DESIGNED for wind controller players in mind! What I especially like, Matt designed a lot of emulative voices and what's more he put in A LOT of combo sounds that are way cool... things like alto/trumpet; tenor/bone etc. A lot of them play very very good, and once again, sound real good when used in a layering sense."

"On another note, I want to publicly thank Matt at Patchman for doing such a wonderful job creating some very useful and musical wind synth patches for the Alesis Q series synths!"

"I'd highly recommend getting the Patchman patches sooner rather than later. IMO, it will be more fun starting out with some great patches - and Matt's patches are excellent. Once you hear how good your synth can sound with Patchman's stuff. Do yourself a favor and get some good patches. I've got Patchman's patches for the Roland JV-2080 and Yamaha VL70-m. They are definitely worth the bill. Get the QS bank."

"I just started playing around with the Patchman soundbank for it and am very pleased with the sounds and the responsiveness. Great job!"

"Thanks for the great bank. You've clearly put a lot of time and thought into creating it. An amazing variety of sounds, as well as many impressive voice contructs."

"The QSR is quite the thing. I had a chance to hack around with the QSR for the first time just now. Wow, your sound bank is quite expressive. I can see that I have a lot to learn about each of the sounds and will have a fun journey ahead of me getting proficient with them. Thanks again for making it available."

"Believe it or not, I was *just* wishing I had this file last night! I loaded the Patchman voices, specifically for a rehearsal in which we needed the Bag Pipe voice for a solo part in a Christmas song. It was a huge hit. That voice alone was worth the price of the library. A few other voices I had time to try last night were great too. Looking forward to exploring the rest of the bank. I was going to type the names in myself. You just saved me a lot of valuable time. Thanks again."

"I'm...very pleased with the wind bank Matt has created for it. He has put in an impressively wide range of voices and voice combos, and they respond great to wind control."

"I bought the Patchman sound bank for my QSR (rack mount QS8) and the box came to life with my WX7. Matt has designed some very useful patches that will give you a good place to start. The patch called 'ChickLead' is killer!"
