These all-new soundbanks turn your Yamaha Motif-Rack XS into a wind controlled / breath controlled powerhouse. These professional quality wind controller sounds come from PATCHMAN MUSIC- the leading authority in breath controlled sound design. These soundbanks are designed to be controlled by a wind controller such as the Yamaha WX5, WX7, WX11, WindJamm'r, Nyle Steiner MIDI EVI/EWI, Akai EWI USB, EWI4000s, EWI5000, EWI SOLO, EVI, MDT, NuEVI, NuRAD, Roland Aerophone, Aodyo Sylphyo, or Softwind Synthophone. Keyboardists can also enjoy these highly expressive sounds when used with a breath controller such as the Yamaha BC1, BC2, or BC3 plugged directly into a keyboard equipped with a breath controller input (i.e. Yamaha VL70-m) or plugged into a device such as the MIDI Solutions Breath Controller Box or Anatek Wind Machine (out of production). These sounds require a wind controller or breath controller for proper use. These sounds load into the Yamaha Motif-Rack XS only. These sounds do NOT load inside a wind controller or any other synth.
These new sounds for the Yamaha Motif-Rack XS synth are the result of over two years of programming by professional wind controller player / sound designer Matt Traum. They have been programmed specifically for the Yamaha Motif-Rack XS to exploit the amazing new Expanded Articulation capabilities of the Motif-Rack XS.
We have waited a long time for a Yamaha Rompler with this level and legato flexibility. And we have not dropped the ball. This new wind controller library is superb. The legato capabilities made possible by the Expanded Articulation features of the Motif-Rack XS series gives the wind controller player unparalled lyricism and smoothness. Slurring is now what you would expect from an acoustic instrument- that is- smooth! Gone are the machine gun re-triggered sample attacks and "chipmunking" effect from sample stretching as on other sample-based synths.
Each soundbank in this vast sound library contains 128 of the most expressive sounds available for the Yamaha Motif-Rack XS. All sounds have been logically organized by type for quick and easy access. Since the Motif-Rack XS waveform ROM is so large and encompassing, we decided to provide you with as many options as possible and let you decide what it the best choice for your needs. We have gone through the entire wave ROM, chosen all of the appropriate sounds that a wind controller player could utilize, and then programmed responsive breath controlled patches for each.
All of the variations that Yamaha included are covered in this library. You will notice there are "smooth" versions for many of the wind and string sounds. The "smooth" version has less attack in the sample compared to the "regular" versions which have both tongued and legato attacks which respond accordingly to your playing. The difference is subtle but very useful especially when layering mulitple instruments when recording. There are also versions with a "+" or "-" in the name. These are timbre shifted versions that have a slightly different overall sound to them. Again, these are great for subtle differences when layering so as to avoid phasing etc... There are also versions with and without vibrato built into the sample and we included all of those as well. Sometimes natural sampled vibrato is most realistic, and sometimes you want no vibrato built in so that you can control it all yourself. We give you both choices whenever possible. Lastly, there are versions of many sounds that are true stereo samples and some that are mono samples that use just the left or right side of the stereo sample (as indicated with an "L" or "R" in the name). We have provided all the possible options to you in this library so that you can choose the perfect match for your needs.
Another creative feature you will find in this library is our unique layered sounds that almost compose on their own. These special layered sounds feature chords that change each time you play a note. Even more, some of these sounds are comprised of different instruments such as Clarinet, Flute, and Bassoon, for example. Playing them with your wind controller will sound like three separate musicians. And of course, we have included the best Brecker Rotator Chorded patches you have ever played! They are reminiscent of the chorded EWI sounds Michael Brecker created on his Oberheim Xpander and Matrix-12 systems.
These three Patchman Music Motif-Rack XS soundbanks were intended to be used as a complete library with all three Volumes loaded into your Motif-Rack XS. So Volume 1 will always be loaded into USER1 bank in the Motif-Rack XS, Volume 2 into USER2 bank, and Volume 3 into USER3 bank. It is, of course, possible to load only one or two Volumes, but since the instrument catagories flow in order from one Volume to the next, we strongly recommend buying all three Volumes to experience the complete set as it was intended.

Solo Violin, Viola, Cello, and upright Bass are all covered in detail with numerous variations to choose from. Then layered and ensemble strings are covered also in great detail. Matt created these sounds over the course of more than two years. Volume 3 for the Motif-Rack XS takes over where Volume 2 left off. This bank continues on with more electric guitars including some gorgeous Metheny ambient type sounds. Basses come next including acoustic, electric, and synth basses. Some very useful keyboards and organs are next. We also included some great layered sounds like Vibes and Muted Trumpet. Next are some useful drum setups that respond great to tonguing. Volume 3 continues on with some vocal type sounds and then gets into some serious synthetic sounds that respond great! Getting into the heart of this bank you will find a plethora of synth timbres that respond extremely well to your breath expression. All of the classic synth leads are here including those fat Judd-style EWI leads, breathy and bell-type sounds, huge Brecker-inspired analog layers and chords, and so much more. Volume 3 finishes off with various chorded layers that emulate the rotating chord washes that Michael Brecker made so famous. Reiterate a note and you will hear the chord change each time it is played! Until recently, this technique was only available on the very expensive Oberheim Xpander and Oberheim Matrix-12. Now YOU can sound like Michael Brecker with these massive layered rotater chords! These Rotator Patches are so cool, we included 9 of them! They are incredibly fun to play and very inspiring! You will definitely turn a few heads with these sounds. This is an amazingly creative and inspiring soundbank.

Available Formats: Email delivery only. These soundbanks are available in Sysex (.SYX) and Standard MIDIfile (.MID) formats for Mac/PC. You will get both formats with your order.
These files can be transferred into the Yamaha Motif-Rack XS via a computer connected to it using various free Sysex and MIDIfile players and most MIDI sequencers (Logic, Cubase, Performer, Pro Tools, Sonar, Cakewalk, etc). Complete instructions are included with the soundbank. All you need is a MIDI interface connected to your computer such as a USB to MIDI type. Click here for more info on loading. Please note: This product is NOT an expansion card. These sounds are Patches that are loaded into the three USER banks inside the Yamaha Motif-Rack XS via a MIDI dump using a computer. More info on this is here. These soundbanks are NOT compatible with any other model Motif synth. These sounds require a wind controller or breath controller for proper use. These sounds load into the Yamaha Motif-Rack XS only. These sounds do NOT load inside a wind controller or any other synth.

"Matt, I wanted to take a moment to thank you for creating the 384 wind controller friendly patches for the Yamaha MOTIF XS rack synthesizer! I got my new synth from you last week and have been working through the MANY patches to figure out which I can use for my performances. This is a really tough thing, this time around, as I would guess that out of the 384 patches you've created I can use at least 300 of them at one time or another. Your work on this is amazing!!! As you're aware, I have multiple synths (Yamaha VL70 w/turbo chip, Roland Fantom XR, Roland XV-5050), plus Garritan PO4 at my disposal for performance. They are all great and I'm not willing to part with them. BUT... this new MOTIF setup is the best of the lot! The many wind and string sounds are the most realistic I've heard/used! I have already performed on 'Bassoon' and 'Bari Sax' with the new synth, and have a jazz gig this weekend that I'll be using several of the new patches. These new patches rival (and beat because of the better 'feel/response') the software samples I've been using. Even my most stringent critic, my wife, came into my studio and marveled at how realistic the new sounds are! I was concerned that with the loss of the VL70m (discontinued) that it would leave wind controller players without a viable replacement. I'm not worried now, as the MOTIF could be the only synth I would use... if it came to that. Again, thanks for investing the many hours you did in creating the new MOTIF sounds! I highly recommend that ALL EWI / Wind Controller players get the Yamaha MOTIF XS rack and your patches... They will discover that same quality sounds that we all need to be effective as performers!"
"Hey Matt, I just wanted to let you know that I ended up using my Motif to great effect, and it amazed everyone (including the musicians in the pit). The flute, piccolo, oboe, bassoon, English horn, horn, harmon muted trumpet, and trombone sounds worked amazingly well being used with both electronic strings, electronic harp, and an acoustic clarinet. "Good morning Matt, Just wanted to let you know I successfully loaded the 3 sound banks into my Motif Rack XS. I am very happy with the results. Your instructions made the install easy. The sounds are amazing and being a saxophonist, I really appreciate the breath control programming. Music is my passion. I recently retired from the corporate world and can finally devote as much time as I want to music creation in my Pro Tools studio. I write and play original compositions, mostly Smooth Jazz, Funk and Fusion. I like the freedom my EWI and Patchman Soundbanks give me when creating and recording. It provides freedom and independence. I am currently working on a recording project and the horn sounds are so real I now have the option of having horn sections with various brass and woodwinds instead of just all saxes. The sounds are so real that you really cannot tell it was done with a EWI. Since I like to move quickly when a creative moment arrives, I can record my horns right on the spot. I love this.
