The stylish, lightweight design offers a straight structure, responsive flute-style keys, and intuitive controls, making playing effortless and enjoyable.
Next-generation sound - Aerophone Brisa features SuperNATURAL Winds, a new Aerophone sound engine that leverages Roland's latest advancements in natural wind expression. Delivering rich, inspiring tones, it faithfully translates every breath nuance into vibrant sound, mirroring the immediate response and dynamic control of acoustic instruments.
Flute and beyond - With 100 onboard tones, Aerophone Brisa is ready to fuel limitless creative journeys. Explore a library of flute family instruments, from concert flutes and piccolos to bass and jazz flutes. Expand your range with winds such as saxophone, clarinet, and trumpet, and go further with orchestral strings and world sounds like pan flute and shakuhachi. You can even perform contemporary music styles with modern synthesizers and drum sounds.
Comfortable playability - Equipped with a newly developed dual breath sensor system, Aerophone Brisa provides natural wind control that will be familiar to all types of players. In contrast with a traditional flute, sound is produced by blowing directly into the mouthpiece, simplifying the playing experience. By adjusting the head joint, it's easy to dial in the most comfortable playing angle. In flute mode, you can execute flute octave switching techniques by directing your breath between the two mouthpiece holes as you play.
Choose your fingering - Aerophone Brisa offers multiple fingering options to meet the needs of a wide range of players. Flute and trumpet modes are available, along with a Brisa mode that's ideal for saxophone and recorder players and anyone new to wind instruments. There are also special fingering modes for playing the instrument with only the right or left hand.
Instant harmony and transposition - Aerophone Brisa's versatile digital engine allows you to add harmonies and drones to your playing, enriching solo and ensemble sessions with tonalities that typically require multiple musicians. There's also a transposition function that lets you play any musical piece with your most comfortable fingering.
Dynamic performance control - There are numerous ways to control Aerophone Brisa sounds in real time, unlocking all-new performance approaches. Use the thumb and S1/S2 buttons to enhance tones with harmonies and unique expressive colors. And with the instrument's integrated motion sensor, you can apply vibrato, pitch bend, and other effects with simple body movements.
Free-flowing music creation - Aerophone Brisa flows everywhere your creative life takes you. With the onboard speaker, headphone jack, and rechargeable battery, you can play anytime and anywhere. The USB-C port provides audio/MIDI communication with music production apps, and the headphone output can also be used to connect with a sound system for live performances. In addition, Bluetooth MIDI is available to send wireless MIDI data to Bluetooth-enabled devices and expand your control options with the BOSS FS-1-WL and EV-1-WL.
Aerophone Brisa Plus - This powerful companion app extends the Aerophone Brisa experience with your smartphone or tablet. Adjust internal parameters from your device's touchscreen, save and recall favorite sounds, and use the fingering display to study layouts and view notes as you play them. You also get integrated access to many additional sounds on Roland Cloud to expand your creative range.

In addition to these questions, Patchman Music offers an extremely helpful Wind Controller FAQ here
Q. What is special about the Roland AE-BRISA?
A. The Roland Aerophone Brisa is the world's first wind controller to be designed around, and into, the flute form factor. It features an innovative new breath / embouchure sensing system which has two air inlets which allow for advanced flute-like mouth sensing. The headstock rotation position can be adjusted. It also uses the very well known flute type fingering layout. Several additional fingering systems are included which means that players of many different instruments can enjoy the Brisa- not only flute players! Fingering system built into the Brisa currently include Flute, Trumpet (Trumpet/EVI designed by Patchman Music's own Matt Traum), and the default Brisa mode which is based on recorder / sax-style fingerings, as well as Left Only, and Right Only. The Brisa also features a newly developed SuperNATURAL Winds sound engine powered by the latest Aerophone advancements for excellent sound quality, breath response, and legato. The Brisa also features a diatonic harmony feature, a small built in speaker, a built-in rechargeable battery, a small display for visual interaction, a programmable tilt motion sensor, a programmable roll motion sensor, a right hand thumb programmable function switch, and S1 and S2 programmable function switches. All this, and the fact that ALL of these features have been engineered and miniaturized to fit inside an instrument the size of a flute is in itself a remarkable accomplishment!
Q. Where can I get a Roland Aerophone Brisa?
A. In the US, Patchman Music is the top sounrce for purchasing the Roland AE-BRISA. Every Brisa Patchman Music sells is discounted to the best possible price, updated with the latst firmware version, tested, and professionally calibrated by wind controller guru and Roland Aerophone team member Matt Traum. Matt's clients comprise all the top wind controller players in the world including Michael Brecker, Bob Mintzer, Tom Scott, Jeff Kashiwa, Steve Tavaglione, Judd Miller, etc... Matt is also personal wind controller tech for Bob Mintzer, Judd Miller, Steve Tavaglione, and many others!
Q. Is it possible to edit the internal sounds in the Roland AE-BRISA?
A. Not to any significant degree. But the sounds already built in are superb and extremely usable as is.
Q. Will Patchman Music release new sounds for the Roland AE-BRISA?
A. Yes, if it becomes possible to load new sounds into the Roland Brisa, Patchman Music will of course be there supporting it with new sounds. The Brisa sounds fantastic, and all the sounds in it are very useful as they are out of the box, but you cannot change its built-in sounds in any dramatic way - at least not as of the current firmware. We currently do NOT offer a soundbank that loads inside the Brisa, but we offer a huge library of sounds that can be loaded into various EXTERNAL synths and soft synths that can then be controlled via a USB connection by the Brisa. Connection to 5 pin MIDI devices it also possble by using a USB to MIDI Host device. Here is a list of all the soundbanks offered by Patchman Music that have been specially designed to be controlled with a wind controller or breath controller.
Q. Can I load my own samples into the AE-BRISA?
A. No. That is not possible as of the current Brisa OS. Click here for list of the sounds that are included in the Brisa.
Q. Where can I learn more about the AE-BRISA?
A. One great source for learning about the AE-BRISA and the other Roland Aerophones is the amazing Aerophone Academy Podcast co-hosted by Patchman Music's own Matt Traum and Alistair Parnell (iSax Academy). The Aerophone Academy Podcast is the best source for accurate in depth discussions and interviews on everything related to wind controllers.
A. The main difference is the physical design with the Brisa being a flute form factor and the previous models all being a woodwind type form factor. Despite the physical differences, there are multiple fingering modes that can be chosen on each of these models that mimic the fingering system found on various acoustic instruments. The Aerophone series wind controllers feature fingering system for sax, flute, clarinet, brass, and even ones that utilize only one hand! Check the owner's manual of any given Aerophone to see what fingering system are available in that model. More info on fingering systems is in the Wind Controller FAQ here.
Q. Are there internal sounds in the AE-BRISA?
A. Yes. Currently there are 100 built in sounds in the Roland Brisa all of which were specially designed to work with a wind controller. The Brisa uses a newly developed SuperNATURAL Winds sound engine powered by the latest Aerophone advancements.
Q. Are there MIDI or USB ports on the Brisa?
A. Yes, the Roland Brisa has a USB C type port on it. It does not have a 5 pin MIDI port, but it is possible to convert from USB C to 5 pin MIDI with the use of a USB to MIDI Host device.
Q. Can I use my MIDI synth modules with the Brisa?
A. Yes, the Roland Brisa can be used to control MIDI modules via its USB C port but you will need to convert from USB C to 5 pin MIDI with the use of a USB to MIDI Host device. Once you have that set up, you will need to load into whatever synth or soft synth you are using special sounds that have been specifically designed to be controlled with a wind controller / breath controller so that they respond to your breath as you would expect. Patchman Music has released the largest library of professional quality breath controlled sounds for a large number of synths and sft synths. A complete list of these soundbanks is here.
Q. Is there an App available for the Brisa?
A. Yes, an app called "Aerophone Brisa Plus" has been released by Roland. Here is a link to the manual for the Aerophone Brisa Plus App.
Q. Is it possible to rename a sound or backup a sound to a computer?
Currently, sounds are stored in the Brisa, not on a computer and there is no patch storage transfer possible.
Q. Can I use soft synths with the Brisa?
A. Yes! You can use any other soft synth (or MIDI hardware synth) with the Brisa but keep in mind that the results you get will likely not be good until you reprogram the patch in your softsynth/synth to respond properly to the data the Brisa sends. Most synths and softsynth patches are designed for keyboard type controllers which is very different from what a wind controller requires. Of course, Patchman Music offers a huge library of wind controller soundbanks that are ready to play properly "right out of the box". Additional general info on this important subject is in the Wind Controller FAQ.
Q. I am a Brass / EVI player. Can I play the Brisa?
A. Yes! The Roland Brisa includes an innovative EVI brass-style fingering mode originally designed by EVI player Matt Traum for the Roland AE-10 and was later incorporated into all the subsequent model Aerophones. This Trumpet/Brass/EVI style fingering system is based on Nyle Steiner's groundbreaking EVI brass style wind controllers. For the first time in history, both woodwind AND brass players can play the same wind instrument with totally different fingering systems simply by changing one parameter! The brass-style Brass/Trumpet/EVI fingering mode is not a perfect emulation of trumpet fingering because a trumpet uses the embouchure to change partials and octaves. But this system gets as close as possible and mot brass players adapt very quickly. If you are already familiar wth the EVI fingering sstem, then you should be able to play the Brisa with minimum effort. Here is a video of Matt Traum demonstrating his brass style system on the entry level Roland AE-01. The techniques shown in the video apply to all Aerophones and the Brisa. More advanced models or Aerophone have an even more advanced set of features built into the brass fingering system. For example, the Brisa has three "fork / trill" keys as on an acoustic flute, and these three keys translate to EVI trill keys superbly! So the Brisa makes for a great EVI type instrument. Order your Roland Brisa from Patchman Music and Matt can set it up for Brass/Trumpet/EVI fingering for you! Click here for info on the Akai EVI fingering system.
Q. I am a Clarinet player. Can I play the Brisa?
A. The Brisa does not currently offer Clarinet fingering (the AE-20 and AE-30 do offer Clarinet fingering as a choice). But this could change in future firmware updates. More info on available fingering systems and fingering charts are in the Brisa manual available from Roland's website here.
Q. Can I go wireless with the Roland Brisa?
A. Yes this is possble with the addition of an optional audio wireless system such as the BOSS WL-20L.
Q. What are the wireless specifications of the Roland Brisa?
The Brisa features Bluetooth - Ver 5.0, Profile Support: GATT (MIDI over Bluetooth Low Energy).
Q. What is the maximum continuous operation time when the Brisa is fully charged?
A. The Brisa's Lithium-ion battery, obtained via USB port (USB bus power) has a current draw of approximately 600ma with an expected battery life for continuous use of approximately 8 hours (differs depending on the conditions of use).
Q. How many effects are there in the Brisa?
A. There are 17 types of effects in the Brisa.
Q. How do I adjust the Sensitivity?
The Brisa has many settings that can be adjusted for the various sensors on the instrument. These settings are editable using the built in display.
Q. Can I use the AE-BRISA with an iPad / iPhone?
Yes. The Brisa can be used with an Apple iPad/ iPhone. If you are looking for wind controller or breath controller sounds for the iPad/iPhone, Patchman Music offers some amazing wind controller soundbanks for the Korg iM1 softsynth, the Korg Mono/Poly softsynth, Propllerhead THOR softsynth, among others. Be sure to check here for news on other wind controller soundbanks for various hardware MIDI synths and soft synths from Patchman Music.
